Veteran highlife singer, Victor Olaiya has died at the age of 89 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning as legendary highlife maestro, has been confirmed dead. According to reports, the “Baby Mi Da” singer was confirmed dead by the managing director of Evergreen Music Company, Bimbo Esho via her Facebook page.
According to her, the Baby Jowo crooner died around noon on Wednesday at exactly 12 pm at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital(LUTH). The reason for his death, however, was not revealed but it appears the singer passed on after a brief illness.
She wrote, “The Death of the Doyen of Highlife music in Nigeria The entire music world wish to announce the death of a Legend of Highlife music one of the last man standing, the last of the original Dr Victor Abimbola Olaiya OON.. This untimely incident happened at Luth hospital Lagos State at exactly 12noon today Wednesday 12th of February, 2020..
We pray that the Doyen of highlife music find repose with the creator while wishing the family and entire music community the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss..
